Losing weight is by no means an easy task. It is quite easily one of the things that people on a whole struggle with the most for their entire lives.
Losing weight isn’t a mystery. All it takes is some determination, perseverance, and re-educating one’s self so that we learn how to live in a healthier way. Here are some easy but effective tips on how to stay healthy and stay slim:
Listen to your Stomach
Oftentimes, when there is a plate of delicious food in front of us, we tend to “eat with our eyes” rather than eat with our stomach. Our brain is telling us to eat more and more since the food tastes oh-so delicious, but our stomach is trying to put on the brakes. Listen to your stomach. When you feel full, you are full; don’ let your brain trick you into thinking otherwise.
Eating at regular intervals is important since it will not only keep your metabolism running continuously in high gear, but it will also help prevent us from feeling starved. When those “starved” feelings creep in, we tend to make bad choices, and also overeat as we are eating faster than our stomachs can keep up.
Small Bites are a Must
Taking small bites, chewing the food properly and then swallowing will give us not only the opportunity to really enjoy the food that we are eating, but it will also give our stomachs a chance to register the food and tell us when it is full. When we gobble down our food, our stomach doesn’t have a chance to tell you when it’s full, so we tend to overeat. Take it slow and enjoy your meal!
Stop Drinking Calories
One of the main causes for being overweight is not the calories that we chew, but rather the calories that we drink. We often forget to realize that our soda is full of hundreds of calories, and that coffee that we buy at the coffee shop down the street has as much fat as a fast food meal. Cut out the carbonated beverages, the sodas, and even juice (juice is loaded with sugars) if you want to lose weight. Stick with water.
This is an old tip that we all know, but hardly follow. Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast not only gives us the energy to function throughout the day, but it also puts our metabolism into high gear so that your body becomes a fat burning machine for the rest of the day.
Choose the Right Chicken
Many diet plans will tell you to choose chicken above any other meats, such as pork or beef. Not all chicken is “good” chicken, however. Any chicken that is breaded has been deep fried, meaning that it has been sunk into a vat of fat that has been absorbed by the chicken. Any chicken with skin is also not a wise weight-loss choice as the skin is full of fat. Always choose skinless grilled chicken.
